I want to develop a good checklist for our guys at my vollie department. We try to do them weekly at the house I'm assigned to but we don't use any checklist and we don't log or track the checks. Usually one of the officer's or a firefighter that works as a paid guy comes up and just checks the trucks how they would at work. I've been tasked with developing a checklist for each truck and I was curious what everyone here does. Do you guys do daily/weekly/monthly? One checklist or several? Anyone willing to share the checklist they use? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I just need somewhere to start.

Thanks

P.S. - We don't have a ladder and our "rescue" doesn't really carry anything more than most carry on their rescue-pumpers.

We check our trucks every week with a detailed check off sheet. every compartment is inventoried and numbed. I can send you a copy of a truck if you like.

My paid dept checks the trucks at the start of every shift.

My Paid on Call Dept. Has one person assigned to each truck. They are in charge of checking and cleaning the trucks once a week and reporting any issues.

We change the people out every three months. Member with 10 or more years are not assigned to check trucks.

I keep up with the vehicle report sheets. I know when the truck was last used, ran, pumped, fueled, equipment ran, washed anything about the truck.

The report will show miles, hours, amount of time they ran the truck, and what they did to the truck.

Thanks for the replies! I was leaning toward just one check sheet; most likely a weekly one that covers pretty much everything. I like the idea of assigning guys to a truck and rotating them every month. I'm pretty sure I could work out a pretty simple schedule for the volunteers.

Thanks to those who offered to send me a copy of what you use! Here's my email for you and anyone else that would like to send me a copy: ntstrub@yahoo.com

For the guys on vollie departments; do you have trouble with getting guys to do the truck checks? Do you have incentives or disciplinary procedures in place for if they do or don't do them?

Thanks again everyone!

We have 4 captains, chief decides what trucks each one is in charge of and guys to check the truck each week, for a year, if the capt. is on top of it and you don't check your truck that week, you don't get credit for your work detail, which you have a work detail every week, you miss 6 in a 6 months you go on suspension and have to be voted back on the dept. and you lose points which equals money and we don't make that much $600.00 a year is a good size check.
