Scene Safety Training

Need some help with this weeks upcoming training, scene safety training. I have been looking all over for a power point or something to use to do my training but have been unsuccessful. If anyone has anything that would help that would be wonderful. I am just trying to give the basics of scene safety, on both fire and non fire scenes.

We are currently in the process of expanding and remodeling our station, as well as placing a 2 1/2 ton army surplus truck into service as a brush truck.

I have been a lurker on this website for 6 months or so, love the videos and figured I would register so I could provide some feedback. I have over 15 combined years in the Fire service, I have done it for a paycheck, and I have done it for free.

Right now I Volunteer with the Calvert Fire Dept in Robertson County. We are a very well funded dept, and have some great equipment to show for it. Call wise we are very up and down... 2007 there were almost 300 calls... However, this year we have just broken 100.

We have had a pretty bad Residential Fire and Wreck within the same 10 days this past week... hoping that is not a trend forming!

April 2008, a cadet at the Houston Fire Department Fire Training Academy died from heatstroke after a morning four mile group run.

The family blames the department. The department says they did nothing wrong.

Truck Checks

I want to develop a good checklist for our guys at my vollie department. We try to do them weekly at the house I'm assigned to but we don't use any checklist and we don't log or track the checks. Usually one of the officer's or a firefighter that works as a paid guy comes up and just checks the trucks how they would at work. I've been tasked with developing a checklist for each truck and I was curious what everyone here does. Do you guys do daily/weekly/monthly? One checklist or several? Anyone willing to share the checklist they use? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I just need somewhere to start.

P.S. - We don't have a ladder and our "rescue" doesn't really carry anything more than most carry on their rescue-pumpers.
